We read unsolicited manuscripts and we read submissions from agents. We do not distinguish between the two, and an unagented manuscript is at no disadvantage here.

Send to submissions@lineahouse.com as a single email. Do not send by post; we cannot return paper.

What to send

Covering letter: In the body of the email. Who you are and what the book is, in under a page.
Synopsis: One to two pages. Tell us the ending — this is not a pitch to a reader.
Extract: The first three chapters, or the first fifty pages, whichever is shorter. For poetry, twelve poems.
Format: One PDF or .docx attachment. Double-spaced, numbered pages, your name in the header.

What we publish

Literary fiction, short stories, poetry, essays and narrative non-fiction. We are particularly interested in work in translation and in writing that carries a specific place and culture in it.

We do not publish self-help, business books, devotional writing, technical manuals, or children’s picture books.
